Fox tales #1
There is a light and it never goes out. Welcome to the roaring twenties.
"There is a light that never goes out." Anyone sitting at a computer staring into the brightness of the screen is distanced from the real tune. When time turns out to be less chronological than we thought, Gatsby will most certainly be humming along with the well-known song by The Smiths.
"Take me out tonight. Where there's music and there's people and they're young and alive.? Just before the end of 2020, epidemiologist Nicholas Christakis (Yale University) predicted that the roaring twenties are coming. Again. Just like when (in 1918) the Spanish flu broke out. "What is happening to us now may seem unnatural and strange, but it is nothing new to humans. It?s just new to us." We read it in the smart blue light that we have come to believe in so much. An omen of a future that seduces and blinds us.
"Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther," wrote Zelda Fitzgerald in 1925. "And one fine morning..." There the sentence ends. Nobody can predict the future. What we can do is start longing for a new past.
